At the end of January, LoFric user Ina Åkerberg, from the children's charity RBU Tanzania, took her crutches and wheelchair and attempted to climb Africa's fourth largest mountain – Mount Meru.
The purpose of the whole journey is to collect money for building a "House of Hope" in Haydom, Tanzania. And with every meter climbed, the establishment of a rehabilitation center for children with spina bifida and hydrocephalus drew closer. There will be treatment and post-surgery care available for children having gone through life-saving procedures; as well as medicine, support and essential practical training provided to help them get by in life.
Ina was born with both these conditions, which is why she is so keen to prove that it is possible to lead a full life and take an active role in society. Everyone should receive care, education, attend school and have the possibility of living a fulfilling life.
Having completed her four day trek, Ina is currently visiting the location of the future rehabilitation center. We will be following her continuous journey, so stay tuned for future updates!
Wellspect are proud sponsors of this noble project and we wish Ina lots of luck with her endeavour. Together we can move mountains!
