Wellspect HealthCare, a subsidiary of DentsplySirona, has today published its annual Sustainability Report for 2022. The report highlights the actions the company has undertaken to meet its sustainability targets and to realize its vision of becoming a sustainability leader in the MedTech industry. 

This week, Wellspect HealthCare, a MedTech business in Mölndal, Sweden, announced the introduction of bio-based raw materials into one of its products; a female urinary catheter with the name LoFric Elle. In an industry that is heavily reliant on fossil based raw materials for its plastic, the announcement raises the stakes for medical device manufacturers.

With its vision set on a net-zero value chain by 2045 and a significant reduction of emissions as early as 2030, Wellspect HealthCare (“Wellspect”), a subsidiary of Dentsply Sirona, Incorporated (“Dentsply Sirona”) is now announcing its commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (“SBTi”).

Today marks an important company milestone with the launch of the 2021 sustainability report. We met up with our Group Vice President, Svenn Poulsen, to hear his thoughts on our progress towards becoming climate neutral by 2045 and the recognized sustainability leader in our industry.

Wellspect is in the process of converting its product documentation - the Technical files - to meet the new EU Regulation for Medical Devices. This regulation replaces the earlier directive, leaving no room for ambiguous interpretation.
